AEM Material Description
Introduction
Ethylene acrylic compounds provide high-heat aging resistance while providing good physical properties.
They offer a high degree of oil, ozone, UV, and weather resistance along with good low temperature flexibility.
Manufactured under the trade name Vamac® by DuPont Dow Elastomers.
AEM rubber full name ethylene acrylate rubber (AEM), ethylene copolymer with methyl acrylate content of 8% ~ 40%, milky white translucent solid.
These rubber materials have good thermal stability and aging resistance in high temperature environments, as well as good oil resistance and chemical resistance.
Due to its excellent characteristics, AEM rubber is widely used in high-temperature seals in automotive, aviation, power and other fields, providing strong support for the development of modern industry.

Performance characteristics
Heat aging resistance
Measured by a 50% reduction in elongation at break, AEM can be used continuously at 120°C for 18 months and at 170°C for 6 weeks. AEM’s heat aging resistance is significantly better than chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber (CSM) and NBR.
Liquid resistance
AEM has good resistance to ATF (Automotive Automatic Steering Fluid), gear oil, glycol/water mixture, diesel and kerosene, etc., but poor resistance to fuel C, phosphate ester hydraulic fluid, non-mineral brake fluid, ester, ketone and gasoline.
Cold resistance
AEM is better cold resistant than ACM and can be used at -40°C and remains soft at lower temperatures with the addition of appropriate plasticizers.
Anti-compression set performance
AEM ternary rubber vulcanized by amine vulcanizing agent has excellent compression set resistance, and the compression set is less than 20% under the condition of 170°C ×70h, and peroxide vulcanization can also be used.
Other Performance
In addition, AEM has excellent ozone resistance and weather resistance, and after 3 years of exposure, there is almost no change in appearance and physical properties.
AEM ternary rubber has excellent flex resistance, and the flexion life is greater than 250,000 times at 100°C, but the flexion resistance of binary adhesive is slightly worse.
AEM with aluminum hydroxide has good combustion safety performance, especially smoke and corrosion during combustion.
