Introduction To FKM
FKM Material Description
Introduction
Fluororubber refers to a synthetic polymer elastomer containing fluorine atoms on the carbon atoms of the main or side chain.
Excellent heat resistance, oxidation resistance, oil resistance, corrosion resistance and atmospheric aging resistance, and has been widely used in aerospace, aviation, automobile, petroleum and household appliances and other fields.
With the exception of Kalrez® perfluorinated elastomer, they are about the most highly temperature resistant of all commercially available elastomers.
Trade names include Viton® (DuPont Dow Elastomers), Fluorel® & AflasTM (3M Corporation), and Technoflon® (Montedison).
| Product Name | Applicable temperature | Tear strength | Elongation | Hardness |
| Fluororubber (FKM) | -60°C ~ 300°C | 2 ~ 25MPa | 150% ~ 600% | 90 ~ 95 |
Performance
Good stability
Fluororubber have a high degree of chemical stability and are currently the best media resistant of all elastomers.
Type 26 Fluororubber resistant to petroleum-based oils, diester oils, silicone ether oils, silicic acid oils, inorganic acids, most organic, inorganic solvents, pharmaceuticals, etc., only resistant to low molecular weight ketones, ethers, esters, intolerance to amines, ammonia, hydrofluoric acid, chlorosulfonic acid, phosphoric acid hydraulic oil.
The media properties of type 23 fluorine rubber are similar to that of type 26, and more unique, its resistance to strong oxidation of inorganic acids such as fuming nitric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid performance is better than type 26, impregnated in 98% HNO3 at room temperature for 27 days, its volume expansion is only 13% ~ 15%.
High temperature resistance
The high temperature resistance of fluoroelastomer is the same as that of silicone rubber, and it can be said that it is the best among elastomers at present. 26-41 fluorine glue can be used for a long time at 250 °C and short-term use at 300 °C.
The physical properties of 26-41 after air heat aging at 300 °C × 100 hours are comparable to those of 246 type after 300 °C × 100 hours of hot air aging, and its tearing elongation can be maintained at about 100%, and the hardness is 90~95 degrees.
Aging resistance
Fluororubber have excellent weather aging resistance and ozone resistance.
It has been reported that the VitonA developed by DuPont still performs satisfactorily after ten years of natural storage, and has not significantly cracked in air with an ozone concentration of 0.01% for 45 days.
Type 23 Fluororubber also has excellent weather aging resistance and ozone resistance.
Vacuum performance
Type 26 Fluororubber has excellent vacuum properties. The vacuum gassing rate of the vulcanized rubber of the basic formula of 246 fluororubber is only 37×10-6 ml/(sec*cm^2).
Mechanical properties
The strength of type 26 fluororubber is generally between 10~20MPa, the elongation of tearing is between 150~350%, and the tear strength is between 3~4KN/m.
The strength of type 23 fluororubber is between 15.0~25MPa, the elongation is 200%~600%, and the tear strength is between 2~7MPa.
Generally, the compression set of fluororubber at high temperature is large, but if the same conditions are compared, such as from the compression set of the same time at 150 °C, butyl and neoprene are larger than 26 type fluorine rubber.
The compression set of type 26 fluororubber at 200 °C × 24 hours is equivalent to the compression set of butadiene rubber at 150 °C × 24 hours.
