Introduction To VITON
VITON Material Description
Introduction
A range of fluoropolymer elastomers whose formulation can be tailored to a reasonable extent to meet the needs of individual end-uses.
They are normally black and have high heat, oil and chemical resistance but indifferent low temperature performance.
RWith the exception of Kalrez® perfluorinated elastomer, they are about the most highly temperature resistant of all commercially available elastomers.
Trade names include Viton® (DuPont Dow Elastomers), Fluorel® & AflasTM (3M Corporation), and Technoflon® (Montedison).

Performance
Viton fluoroelastomers are able to operate at high temperatures, where they provide superior physical and mechanical properties than most other elastomers.
The increase in temperature has relatively little effect on the oil and chemical resistance of fluoroelastomers. Even after continuous aging at 204 °C or intermittently in a 260 °C oven, fluoroelastomers will retain a certain elasticity.
The use conditions at high temperatures are usually 232°C×3000h, 260°C×100h, 288°C×240h, 316°C×48h.
The general temperature of fluoroelastomer under dynamic conditions can be as low as -18 to -23 °C, but the temperature of specific rubber materials can be as low as -54 °C under static use.
Experiments have proved that the performance of Viton fluoroelastomer is still satisfactory when used as a static sealing product under conditions close to absolute zero.
Among all industrialized elastomers, fluoroelastomer has better resistance to liquids and chemical media than any non-fluoroelastomer, and it has excellent oil resistance, aviation fuel resistance, lubricant resistance, and resistance to most mineral oils.
Viton has very low permeability to most substances and also has excellent performance in low oxidation resistance to automotive fuel penetration. fat
Fatty and aromatic hydrocarbons are solvents for general elastomers, but Viton rubber has good durability for them.
Even under high temperature conditions, Viton rubber still has superior compression set performance.
Excellent resistance to atmosphere, light, oxidative aging, good mold resistance, fungus resistance, good electrical properties when used at low voltage and low frequency, and better inherent flame retardant properties than non-fluorinated elastomers.
