Introduction To HNBR
HNBR Material Description
Introduction
Nitrile has good mechanical properties when compared with other elastomers and high wear resistance.
Trade names include Therban® (Mobay), Tornac® (Polysar), and Zetpol® (Nippon Zeon Company).
Hydrogenated butadiene rubber (HNBR) is a highly saturated special elastomer formed by hydrogenation of butadiene rubber (NBR).
Compared with NBR, the molecular structure of HNBR contains a small amount or no carbon-carbon double bonds, which not only maintains NBR oil resistance, wear resistance and other properties, but also has better heat and oxygen aging resistance (can work for a long time at 150°C).
Ozone resistance, radiation resistance, chemical resistance (good acceptance of hydrogen thinning) and good dynamic properties, is a special rubber with excellent comprehensive performance, belongs to the national strategic material.
| Relative density | Hardness (Shore A) | Tensile strength (MPa) | Elongation(%) | Operating temperature range (° F) |
| 1.15 | 45 ~ 100 | 6.89 ~ 30 | 400 | -40° to 300° |
Performance
1. Good processing performance, high strength, excellent wear resistance, small permanent deformation, and unique ozone resistance and hydrogen sulfide resistance.
2. Although hydrogenated butadiene rubber is saturated with hydrogenation, it still maintains the characteristics of the original butadiene rubber. It has tensile crystallinity and therefore high strength.
3. Good swelling resistance to technical liquids (including oils containing corrosion additives).
4. Good mechanical properties, even under temperature rise conditions, it still maintains a considerable level.
5. Under extremely harmful conditions, it has significant wear resistance.
6. The tensile strength of vulcanized rubber is higher than that of butadiene rubber and neoprene rubber, and close to higher than that of antelope-based butadiene rubber.
7. Excellent acid resistance (hydrogen sulfide) environment and amine/oil mixture resistance, as well as oxidation resistance to fuel and lubricating oil performance.
8. The glass transition temperature Tg is between -15 ~ 40 °C and the brittle temperature is -50 °C with the degree of hydrogenation.
Other performance
1. After hydrogenation, nitrile rubber greatly improves its heat resistance and hot air aging resistance, and can soak HNBR specimens in hydraulic steering oil for 1000h at 180°C.
2. HNBR is resistant to acids, alkalis and salts at high temperatures and can work in lubricating and fuel oil media with highly corrosive additives. When simulating the environment of acid liquid/gas medium for deep well exploitation in oilfield (gas phase: 5% H2S, 20% CO2, 75% CH4, liquid phase: 95% diesel, 4% water, 1% corrosion inhibitor).
